KL Sixes Football Tournament 2012

Football Focus Asia has concluded our first edition of KL Sixes Football Tournament 2012. Held on 21st April 2012 at the MSN fields, Bukit Jalil, this fun & relaxed amateur tournament was organized in conjunction with the Standard Chartered Masters Football Malaysia Cup 2012.

KL Sixes started off with teams attending the Captains’ Night on 20th April, with free flow of beers & snacks which took place at Cellar Door Bar @ Doubletree by Hilton. The programme included tournament briefing, team packs distribution, a whole lot of beers & team draws conducted by EPL Legends John Barnes, Viv Anderson & Phil Neal.

The 1-day tournament was divided into 2 categories – Open & Senior (Over 35’s), which saw a total 28 teams including 16 Open & 12 Senior teams. With over 250 players taking part, there was a buzzing atmosphere at MSN fields.

Match duration was 16 minutes long, each team of 10 were required to field 6 players during matches. No offside rules applied & roll on/off substitutions were allowed, making the games fast paced.

All teams kicked off in groups of four whereby the top 2 teams in each group would qualify for Cup knockout rounds, the rest would go into the Plate knockout rounds. Starting off all teams had the chance to vie for the Cup & Plate Championship spot, 1st Runner-up, 3rd & 4th placing under both Open & Senior category.
