What is Masters Football?
Masters Football has been winning new fans across Britain since the summer of 2000 where the competition became a huge success. Subsequently, its ever-growing following led to the Masters Cup expanding to a Home Nations tournament (England, All-Ireland, Scotland, Wales), an International and European Cup and regular tours to the Middle East and North America.
In 2008 Football Focus Asia brought Masters Football to Asia for the first time with an inaugural tournament at Stadium Malawati, where it returns once again in 2012. Masters Football has seen 4 successful years in Asia and as of 2012 has begun its expansion into 5 other regional locations.
The success of this tournament can be attributed to two main factors. The first is that it brings together the legends of the beautiful game and gives the fans another chance to see their heroes in action. The second is that the tournament is set up in a six-a-side format with rolling subs and full size goals, which encourages high-scoring games, and plenty of action.
All players must be over the age of 35 to be eligible for Masters, but as many of you well know, the likes of Ryan Giggs, Thierry Henry and Paul Scholes are still plying their trade at the highest level at the ages of 38, 34 & 37 respectively. Many of the names who take part in our tournaments have only just finished playing professionally. Last year’s notable Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler had been actively playing for Perth Glory only one month prior to stepping onto the blue carpet.
With every Masters tournament we bring to Asia we strive to bring the very biggest names in EPL history. As each season passes the better the roster seems to get. Up to now the tournament has featured such legendary names as Robbie Fowler, John Barnes, Ian Rush, Bryan Robson, Faustino Asprilla, Lee Sharpe , Andy Cole, Ray Parlour and Steve McManaman
